School of Marxism
The School of Marxism evolved from the former Teaching and Research Office of Marxist Theory. Initially affiliated with the Student Affairs Department, the office was responsible for teaching ideological and political courses to all undergraduate students. On April 22, 2022, the university established the directly subordinate Teaching and Research Department of Marxist Theory, and on December 29 of the same year, the School of Marxism was officially inaugurated. It now oversees the reform of ideological and political education, faculty development, and research on the dissemination of contemporary Chinese Marxism across the university.
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and under the direct leadership of the university’s Party committee, the school is committed to achieving the "Three Integrations" educational goal (integrating theory into teaching, research, and practice). It focuses on developing core curricula for fostering virtue through education, systematically equipping students with the fundamentals of Marxism and its localized achievements in China. Students study the "Four Histories" (the history of the Communist Party of China, the People’s Republic of China, reform and opening-up, and socialist development) and understand the "Three Contexts" (national conditions, global trends, and social realities), cultivating their ability to analyze and solve problems using Marxist methodologies. Leveraging the university’s internationalized educational approach, the school strives to build a new ecosystem for "holistic ideological and political education", dedicated to nurturing a new generation capable of contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative, China-Russia comprehensive strategic collaboration in the new era, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The school comprises six teaching and research offices and two research platforms: the "Teaching and Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era", the "Teaching and Research Office of Basic Principles of Marxism", the "Teaching and Research Office of Marxism with Chinese Characteristics", the "Teaching and Research Office of Ideology, Morality, and Rule of Law", the "Teaching and Research Office of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History", the "Teaching and Research Office of Current Affairs and Policies", as well as the "Shenzhen-Hong Kong Integration Development Research Center" and the "Sino-Russian (Sino-Soviet) Historical Relations Research Base". Currently, it has 12 full-time faculty members and one administrative staff, including eight senior professionals.
In recent years, the school has responded to the new demands of ideological and political education in the new era by deeply exploring Sino-Russian revolutionary resources and creating distinctive practical teaching programs. It actively promotes the construction of integrated ideological and political education bases for primary, secondary, and higher education, achieving continuous innovation in curriculum development and pedagogical reforms for Sino-foreign cooperative education. Research efforts leverage the regional advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and build on prior academic foundations, focusing on cutting-edge areas such as "Shenzhen’s Reform and Opening-Up Practices" and "National Identity Among Hong Kong and Macao Youth." Through high-quality research, the school contributes to the development of the Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen’s pioneering demonstration zone.
