Faculty of Biology
The Faculty of Biology is committed to introducing high-quality educational resources from Lomonosov Moscow State University and cultivating talents at the international forefront. It has established a comprehensive, high-level talent cultivation system spanning undergraduate to doctoral programs in biological sciences, with the goal of building a world-leading life sciences research center.
The Faculty focuses on soil environments, marine ecology, biomedicine, and nanobiotechnology. Leveraging the strengths of Moscow State University's Faculty of Biology—one of the most comprehensive teaching and research institutions in Russia and Europe in the field of biological sciences—along with its extensive network of experimental and observation stations, the Faculty adopts a broad-scope, foundation-intensive training model. While solidifying fundamental knowledge, it emphasizes the cultivation of scientific literacy and international cultural exchange skills, fostering critical thinking and exploratory innovation capabilities to achieve a balance between breadth and depth in talent development. Through targeted elective courses, the Faculty equips students with the ability to serve economic industries related to the Belt and Road Initiative and enhances their competitiveness for managerial positions in government agencies, enterprises, and institutions.
From its inception, the Faculty has placed high importance on cultivating high-end research talents. In 2017, it began enrolling students in its English-taught master's program, followed by a joint doctoral program in biology with Moscow State University (MSU) in 2018. In 2019, it launched a Russian-taught undergraduate program, thereby establishing and continuously enriching a multi-path, full-chain talent cultivation system.
The Faculty's teaching team primarily consists of scholars seconded by Moscow State University and outstanding talents recruited from top-tier universities and research centers in China, Russia, and globally. Currently, the Faculty has 72 full-time faculty and staff, including 51 teachers from Moscow State University. Among them are 5 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 20 professors, and 17 associate professors, with 97% of teaching and research personnel holding doctoral degrees. The team also includes 1 Pearl River Youth Scholar from Guangdong Province and 11 high-level talents from Shenzhen. Additionally, approximately 30 teachers from Russia, Europe, North America, and other regions participate in the Faculty's teaching and research activities remotely or through short-term visits. This model ensures that students not only master foundational knowledge in biology but also engage with senior experts in specialized fields, guaranteeing that their education encompasses both fundamental theories and cutting-edge global research advancements and practical technologies.
